Pro- and anti-Trump protesters clashed violently in Olympia, Washington, on Saturday, December 12, 2020, for a second weekend.
A person was shot and a suspect arrested during the day of scuffles and fights between rival protesters armed with guns and clubs in the state capital. “Police declared a riot early in the afternoon,” Huffington Post reported, adding, “Officials described a chaotic, fluid situation where the two groups clashed.”
The demonstrators included “a group that wanted COVID-19 restrictions lifted, another protesting President Donald Trump’s loss in the presidential election last month, and a Black Lives Matter counter-protest,” Huffington Post said. A Seattle TV station reported “a similar situation unfolded” there on Saturday, December 5, when a pro-Trump rallier was arrested for shooting into a crowd. Read story here and here.
In Washington, D.C., protest activity that remained peaceful most of the day turned violent after dark, and then 4 people were stabbed, 2 police officers were injured, and at least 23 arrests were made. Read that story here.
