“President Donald Trump urged Washington D.C. police not to ‘hold back’ in cracking down on ‘antifa scum’ in a shockingly violent tweet late Saturday,” Huffington Post reported on November 14, 2020. Read story here.

Confrontations that erupted into fistfights and a stabbing later Saturday night left 2 cops injured, 1 protester critically wounded, and at least 20 people arrested, NBC News reported. Read their story here.

The NBC affiliate in Washington D.C. reported, “One person was stabbed when a fight broke out between two large groups … about 8:30 p.m.,” who was taken “with critical injuries to a trauma center.” Read story here. The Daily Mail, a U.K.-based tabloid, said the violence began when pro-Trump demonstrators invaded an area occupied by counter-protesters, and the stabbing victim was a Black Lives Matter protester. Huffington Post said Sunday morning, “Videos posted on social media showed fistfights, projectiles and clubs as Trump supporters clashed with those demanding they take their MAGA hats and banners and leave. … In a pattern that kept repeating … Trump supporters who approached the [counter-protesters] were harassed, doused with water and saw their MAGA hats and pro-Trump flags snatched and burned.” Read that story here.

At this point, it’s unclear who instigated the violence, but news reports indicate Nazis and hate groups like the Proud Boys were involved.

This is a developing story.
