Why would any mother want her child to grow up to be president? We hate our presidents. Fact is, most presidents are unpopular, and we often loathe them. In fact, many of us detest all of them. But we elect them anyway. What’s the weird psychology behind this? Why do we so often vote for people we despise?
Maybe Trump’s right about wanting to be a king. Or maybe he just watched “The Unforgiven” too many times, and decided English Bob’s view of the world is the way things really are.
If my kid grew up and became president, I, like Alec Guiness in “Bridge on the River Kwai,” would scratch my head and say, “What have I done?”
