Tulsa police commander says more African-Americans should be shot

A Tulsa police major denied there’s “institutional racism” in policing, then added “research says we’re shooting African Americans about 24 percent less than we probably ought to be” during a radio program on Monday, June 8, 2020, according to NBC News.

The mayor, who is white, and police chief, who is black, denounced the comments by Maj. Travis Yates. The police department said the incident has been referred to Internal Affairs.

According to the Washington Post, Tulsa police kill blacks at “more than twice the rate” of whites. Read story here.
