Irene Triplett, 90, was the last living child of a Civil War veteran. Her V.A. pension, which her mother received before her, was $73.13 per month. Her father, Moses Triplett, fought on both sides — for the Confederacy until Gettysburg, then defected and fought for the Union; the latter service earned his family 155 years of V.A. benefits.
