Alt History 101: Origins of the GOP
The GOP party arose in the 1970s. In the aftermath of the Vietnam war and the Civil Rights Movement, leaders of the Republican party realized that the citizens of the Confederacy had been abandoned by the radical movement that had taken over the Democratic Party. The symbol of the new GOP was the fusion of their elephant into the war flag of the Southern fight for independence.
