Hyperbolic? Consider: The executive and legislative branches of the federal government (and most state governments) are now completely aligned to support a Trump-lead authoritarian kleptocracy.  The Judiciary (including the justice department, under the executive) have been the only meaningful resistance.  Trump will now get away with deposing of anyone in the justice department who dares his authority. He has fired the three leaders in the Justice department who have investigated him (Comey, Yates, and Bharara).

Thanks to the senate GOP blocking Obama’s appointments, Trump will also begin to stack scores of open federal Judge appointments with cronies (as he has with the stolen Supreme Court seat).

Standing between Trump and this plan? Mitch McConnell.

Jonathan Golob I’ve been reading a bit on the Dutch Resistance in WW2. There are heartbreaking stories of German Jews who were precient enough to leave Germany early in the Nazi era–but then selected the Netherlands as a reasoanble choice (liberal, relatively friendly to Jews, similar language, job opportunities). They, of course, were sent to the camps and mostly killed off after Germany occuppied Holland.

Stephanie Purdy Ito I have been saying this since the election, and people thought/think I am crazy. But we got our kids passports this summer partly because of this potentiality.
