TEN QUESTIONS FOR PRAMILA
Sawant’s opposition to the Democrartic Party, Raises Questions Jayapla should answer.
Kshama Sawant Showed Up at the DNC to Tell Bernie Sanders Supporters to Vote for Jill Stein.
Sawant’s supporter, Pramila Jayapal is running for Congress.
Pramila Jayapal is running for Congress as a Democrat in CD 5. The center of the fifth Congressional District is Seattle’s district 3 .. where i live. There were two candidates .. Pam Banks, an African American activist with huge achievements as head of the Urban League. Pam is also a Democrat. Pramila supported Kshama Sawant, an outspoken Trotskyist.
Like Pramila, Sawant fueled her campaign with 100s of thousands of dollars in dark money … off the books contributions from her Socialist Alternative (Trotskyist) Party and the SEIU.
In Pramila’s case there is a PAC.
A large part of my opposition to Sawant was her apparent lack of interest in the hard issues affecting this Council District .. Black flight, bad schools, local public transit for access to light rail, middle class housing… you know city council issues. Sawant ignored those issues . Money tells in politics and as our elected representative she still ignores us.
So what about Jayapal? She does not live in the District and has never had much to say about it. Her support, like that for Sawant, includes large amounts of money from outside Seattle. I have repeatedly asked Pramila to answer ten questions about issues that are immensely important to this district:
1. What can be done about the flight of African Americans out of this district?
2. What could our Congress person do to help the waterfront and the port?
3. Does she know that the US Ice Breaker fleet is down to two boats? What role shoe NOAA play on the new waterfront?
4. Our tech companies need the best world class talent. What does she think about high tech immigration?
5. Amazon is revolutionizing American retail, even driving people out of low end WALMART jobs. Should Amazon be unionized?
6. Federal support for elite American universities, in our case the UW, is in decline. What could the fifth District C0ngress representative do about that? How much doe she know about the UW?
7. Gentrification is driving the arts community out of Seattle. Does the Federal Government have a role in supporting art?
8. The local teachers unions have successfully blocked effort to create charter schools in Seattle and the SPS are poorly rated both for top students and for underachieving students versus school systems in other wealthy cities. Does she think Charter schools should be allowed n Seattle?
9. Does Jayapal support Hillary Clinton for President?
10. Are you getting support from Sawant or her Socialist Alternative party, or Jill Stein’s Green Party?
