ANTHONY on the Central District

AnthonyI have talked to a few of you about oral history of the CD and the importance of documenting it. I mentioned it to my teacher and she said that she would help me. I have used real life examples in class to give students a better understanding of why some public policy solutions actually hurt Black families, and Black men and Women.

Seeing some of the struggles firsthand, and feeling the loss of family and friends to drugs, incarceration and death, and also seeing the power and influence that men within this sub group have over the community, I am convinced that the hood needs to receive more attention at the scholarly level, and also deserves more attention from older generations within the Black community.

My professor just told me that she wants me to do an Honors thesis. This is bigger than a school assignment though. I have been thinking about this for years, and school gives me the opportunity to start working on it, with the help of someone who I admire, that does this type of work already.
