Minnesota students protest racist school board member

columbia_copyHundreds of students walked out of a Minnesota high school this week to protest the school board’s refusal to expel a board member who posted racist tweets about Muslims on his Facebook account. The board voted 3-1 in favor of removing Grant Nichols from his elective position, but removing him required a unanimous vote, and fellow board member Ted Landwehr voted against the removal resolution. Nichols claims someone stole his phone and used it to post the offensive tweets, but nobody except Landwehr believes him, and the school board chair says Nichols admitted making the posts.
