Affordable apartments, food bank coming to U-District

KING 5’s Josh Green reports.

KING 5 reports that  $400 a month for a studio in the University District? The Low Income Housing Institute believes it will become a reality here in about a year. The LIHI and the University District Food Bankbroke ground on University Commons. The property will provide affordable apartments for homeless young adults, age 18 to 24, as well as low-wage workers entering the workforce. There will be 49 apartments altogether in the building located at 5019 Roosevelt Way NE.

This is an example of the kind of project we COULD have in District 3 if the discussion were not being blocked by Kshama Sawant’s demagoguery. NOW how do we get the UW on board to extend this idea to low and moderate income housing for young faculty and fellows?? Wouldn’t that be wonderful on Capital Hill!  Hell .. there are a lot of moderate income folks working at Amazon too.  Maybe Bezos would nvest in some housing?

All this needs LEADERSHIP!
