Kshama Sawant is campaigning for the position of City Council in Seattle’s District 3.
She describes herself as a Trotskyite. After the fall of the Czar, Russia was taken over by bourgeois forces who wanted to create a Democracy. Leon Trotsky was the heroic general who lead the Bolshevik Army to overthrow the forces of bourgeois democracy in revolutionary Russia. Later Trotsky and Stalin fought over whick of them should rule Russia. Trotsky lost.
In the spirit of General Trotsky, the Sawant’s party, known nationally as the Socialist Alternative, supports such issues of importance to our District as the replacement of Israel by a state under rule of Hamas, expropriation of Boeing factories by the workers, and imposition of rent controls on housing in Seattle.
