Creative policing at its best

fl-craigslist-safe-haven-hrem15-new-01frame93467“Everyday millions of people buy and sell items on the internet. Thousands of these transactions are between private citizens and in many cases can be dangerous,” CBS News reports. “Since 2009, 45 people have been killed in Craigslist related robberies.”

The obvious solution is having locations where strangers can safely meet and exchange goods and cash. Florida has begun using police stations for this purpose. The Boca Raton Police Department already has such a program. The police chief says, “If their intent is bad, they’re going to say no” to meeting at a police station. In his jurisdiction, Craigslist robberies have dropped to zero.
