The sad truth is that Netanyahu’s speech is a craven effort to undermine the relationship between the traditionally liberal Jewish community and the Democratic party.

The Vice President is showing his back to the Israeli Prime Minister.  Others who have announced they will not attend this violation of the role the three branches of the US government, include some of the members of congress most honored for  the fight for civil rights. The list includes  Representative John Lewis of Georgia and the new chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, G.K. Butterfield of North Carolina. Several liberal Democrats, including Reps. Earl Blumenauer (Ore.), Barbara Lee (D-Calif.) and Gregory Meeks (N.Y.), also intend to boycott the address.   Seattle’s representative, Jim McDermott has announced he will not attend.

Efraim Halevy, former head of Israel’s secret service, the Mossad,  has said “Fear-mongering Netanyahu is antithesis of Churchill.”  Judaism’s  leading force angst bigotry, the Anti-Defamation League, is urging  Benjamin Netanyahu to cancel the speech.

Netanyahu,  has made an absurd effort to tell  Democratic lawmakers that giving the speech was not an Boehner and the tea partyattempt to flout Obama.  Deputy Israeli Foreign Minister Tzachi Hanegbi told Israeli radio Friday that Netanyahu had trusted that the invitation Boehner extended to him was bipartisan.  That was a lie.  The Israeli Ambassadors Ron Dermer is a former high level operative of the US Republican party.  Mr. Dermer has admitted that he and Majority Leader Boehner set up this speech.

Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein met with lawmakers on Capitol Hill this week to try to calm the furor and prevent a possible boycott of the speech by some Democrats. That effort will fail.  Patriotic  Jews .. both Americans and Israeli,  have urged Netanyahu to step down from this horrible insult to the US Presidency.

Hanegbi said the prime minister was not planning to cancel or postpone the speech.
