State representative Sally Kern has introduced the following bills in Oklahoma’s legislature:
1. House Bill 1599, the “Preservation and Sovereignty of Marriage Act”: Taxpayer dollars and government salaries can’t be used for “the licensing or support of same-sex marriage,” and any state employee who “officially recognizes, grants, or enforces a same-sex marriage license” will be stripped of his/her salary, benefits, and pension.
2. House Bill 1598, the “Freedom to Obtain Conversion Therapy Act,” would allow parents to seek therapy to change the sexual orientation of gay children and prohibit the state from interfering with such therapy.
3. House Bill 1597 would allow businesses to refuse service to gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people.
Kern, a former schoolteacher and wife of an Oklahoma City fundamentalist pastor, had already earned a reputation as one of America’s most virulent gay-hating homophobes.
