“I’m not a scientist.”
That’s the GOP’s new climate-change talking point. Because it sounds better than, “I don’t know, and don’t want to know.” These people have moved from denial, which is no longer tenable or respectable, to head in sand. Ostriches enjoy higher social standing than liars, and even Republicans are (at least a little) sensitive to their public image.
How do you answer someone who, confronted with the reality of human-caused climate change, answers with “I’m not a scientist”? Like this:
“You take your doctor’s advice, your lawyer’s advice, your stockbroker’s advice, your tax accountant’s advice, your minister’s advice, your mechanic’s advice, even your wife’s advice. Why won’t you accept scientific advice?”
