Over at HorsesAss Goldy’s music seems to be building toward a crescendo, playing on the signature of notes of the $15 minimum wage movement as if this were to become the theme music of a symphony, a Noble Cause.
Occupy was also a Noble Cause. However, lacking a composer, the music ended, achieving nothing because it lacked the ability to create something more concrete than transitory themes of protest. The 15 campaign in Seattle looked like it might be more meaningful, building a real role for its composer Kshama Sawant, perhaps with David doing the libretto.
Unfortunate, it appears this is not going to happen. Kshama Sawant has left the stage because she turns out not to be capable of leading an orchestra with divers instruments representing the parts of Seattle’s liberal community. Real questions abut tip income and health insurance are beyond her skills. . Instead she is doubling down on her movement by going back to the ballots for an all or none vote.
Kshama Sawant may come out of that as some sort of liberal heroine but she will go on to loose her seat in the district elections and become a peripheral figure.
Meanwhile, I went last night to listen to Jason Richie the Dem’s candidate running against Dave Reichert … sad. I think this nice man never mentioned the 15 campaign. If only folks like him could channel Kshama’s energy, perhaps the Democrats might actually get enough votes to win elections in this supposedly deep blue state!
