CHINA’s PLAN

The PLAN Marine Corps (PLANMC) are China’s most well trained and dedicated amphibious assault force. In February and March 2014, the PLANMC and their ZTD-05 amphibious assault vehicles undertook urban combat training in winter bitten Inner Mongolia, where temperatures often reach -10 Celsius. Given that virtually all of China’s maritime territorial disputes are in tropical and subtropical waters, one potential winter combat destination of the PLANMC could be North Korea, whose collapse Beijing has to include as a potential contingency.
