UW Students use MoveOn to Protest Illegal Fees

Below is an email from Katherine Banks, a University of Washington academic student employee who created a petition on SignOn.org, the nonprofit site that allows anyone to start their own online petition. If you have concerns or feedback about this petition, click here

One concern I have is that I can not find Ms. Banks in the UW directory.

Dear Seattle MoveOn member,

Once again, academic student employees at the University of Washington are being charged student fees this semester that violate our collective bargaining agreement as decided by a third-party arbitrator in May 2012.

The financial hardship presented by these fees is significant—up to 57% of our first paycheck is paid back to our employer. The university’s decision to delay implementation of the arbitrator’s ruling is unacceptable.

UW works because we do. That’s why I created a petition on SignOn.org demanding that the University of Washington honor workers’ rights and stop charging fees to academic student employees that violate our collective bargaining agreement.

Click here to add your name to this petition, and then pass it along to your friends.

Thanks!
