Poltical Hypocrisy

β Award

Dishonorable Disclosures” is a short film by an organization called Special Operations OPSEC attacking Obama for leaking information about the assasination of ben Laden and our covert efforts in places like Afghanistan and Libya.  The comparison to  to the “Swift Boat” ads against John Kerry is obvious. The big difference between these two films is that those ads attacked Mr. Kerry’s heroism (and the medal he received) while this ad attacks a necessary part of any government .. right or left.

To follow “Dishonorable Disclosures” to its logical conclusion … administrations must either totally conceal what they are doing (Nixon) or make everything public? Someone should tell this to Bush’s leakmeisters. I seem to remember something about Karl Rove and his sacrificial colleague, Scoop Libby?  Rove used leaks to preserve the presidential need for  deniability. The leaks were only a problem because, as we learned, they were lies intended to foster a war with Iraq.

The faux morality about things any administration does  disgusts me. This sort of piety is hardly restricted to the radical right.  The left has gone to absurd lengths to ban torture and assassination. OF COURSE the CIA uses torture … I just want to be able to trust the morality of my President; I do not want to know about some things we MUST do.

Israel’s Massad has long played just this game.  What purpose would it serve Israel (or us) to announce that we had created the virus that attacked Iran’s nuclear program?  If the CIA managed to kill Khameini, would you want Obama to announce that he had given the order?

In the same vein, I EXPECT the president to leak some information rather than owning it.
