When Jews Drink Tea with Republicans

The SWU post is pure Tea party Warhawk rhetoric. It mirros Netnyahu's bizarre effort to turn Israel into a protectorate of right wing American evangelicals who see us a fodder for their Armageddon.

The SWU post is pure Tea party Warhawk rhetoric. It mirrors Netanyahu’s bizarre effort to turn Israel into a protectorate of right wing American evangelicals who see us a fodder for their Armageddon.

Stand with Us is a Jewish movement that does a good job of combating the antisemitic, pro Hamas boycott movement (BDS).  Unfortunately, SWU has been sipping too many Glessel Tea with the Tea Party and seems have fallen under the rhetorical table of the Republican extremist reaction to the Iran treaty.
Here’s StandWithUs’ Statement on the Iran Agreement.

While StandWithUs welcomes international efforts to end Iran’s nuclear program through diplomacy, the details emerging about the agreement reached yesterday, July 14, 2015, between the P5+1 and Iran raise serious concerns.

It appears the deal will not prevent Iran’s regime from developing nuclear weapons, moderate its aggressive policies, or persuade it to stop sponsoring terrorism. Rather it only delays its pursuit of nuclear weapons and allows it to continue promoting violence and instability around the world.

Whoever wrote this seems not to understand, the US cannot isolate Iran on its own.  This is not a unilateral deal between the US and Iran. If you think the US has the unilateral power to sanction Iran indefinitely I suggest you have a cup of tea and make toast to the eternal British Empire.

Again, ” persuade it to stop sponsoring terrorism.” This is NOT and never was intended to be an agreement to subdue Iran. Furthermore, the word terrorism n this context is misplaced. Most of the terrorism we all discuss is sponsored by Qatar (ISIS and the Syrian rebels) or Saudi Arabia … 9/11, Paris, etc. Iran is aggressive … but so are China (South China Sea) and Russia (Ukraine). I am unaware of Iran building Islands in the Straight of Hormuz.

We hope that Congress, which has 60 days to review the agreement after it is submitted by the administration, will ensure that the deal protects the U.S. and our allies, and prevents nuclear proliferation in the region.

A weapons embargo against Iran was never part of the negotiation. Rathewr the deal ADDS a weapons emargo that does not yet exist escept in the short term. Again if you think the allies are going to enforce an embargo I suggest SWU share that cup of teas with Czar Putin and Comrade Xi.

This should not be a partisan issue. The stakes are too high and this will impact too many people in the international community. Iran is the world’s most active sponsor of international terrorism. It is a fundamentalist regime that believes in anti-Semitic conspiracy theories, calls for the elimination of neighboring states, abuses its own people, and leads chants of ‘death to America.’

“This should not be a partisan issue.”  Ya Sure Betcha.

“Iran is the world’s most active sponsor of international terrorism.” Not at all true.  Iran has done some horrid things bit nothing on the scale of the terror armies supported by the Gulf State and Saudi Arabia.  9/11 is still a memory?

This table from a recent Pew report shows that Iran is only a high priority  in the uA, Israel and Canada.  The world does not see Iran as “he world’s most active sponsor of international terrorism.”

Percentage of Respondents “Very Concerned” About …

As for Irani rhetoric, has SWU listened to Scott Walker propose to bomb Iran back to the stone age?  Or should they listen to bigotry at Brandeis who blocked an honorary degree for Ayaan Hirsi Ali. an atheist refugee form Islam, because her criticism of Sunni regimes is politically correct?

All Americans should work together to prevent this regime from gaining more destructive ability. The choice is not between this agreement or war. It is between an agreement that will prevent a nuclear-armed Iran and one that will not.

SWU needs to understand .. we did not conquer Iran, it is not Japan.

Sure.  It would be great if we could execute every Iranian nuclear physicist.  While we are at it perhaps we should also execute all their molecular biologists so they can not engineer a better anthrax?

I guess the real idea is that we nuke em and when the Ayotallah bows to our Admiral, we take over the country as we did in Japan?  That worked, didn’t it?

We hope that both parties in Congress work together to ensure that the only deal America agrees to is one that will rein in Iran and keep it from getting nuclear weapons not just in the short term, but in the long term.

Again, whoever wrote this is woefully ignorant of the law and of geopolitics. Congress does not make treaties, though it can make war.  The US is NOT the sole world power.

StandWithUs will continue its mission of educating the public about the threat Iran’s regime poses to Israel and other American allies in the region and beyond. We will inform the public about issues of concern: prematurely ending sanctions, weakening inspections protocol, leaving intact Iran’s weapons program and enrichment facilities, allowing Iran to legally develop nuclear weapons in 15 years, Iran’s continued development of longer-range ballistic missiles. In addition the agreement contains no stipulations to free American hostages, no curbs on racist incitement or sponsorship of terror, and the removal of restrictions on Iranian nuclear development after 15 years.

“In addition the agreement contains no stipulations to free American hostages, no curbs on racist incitement ” These are both ridiculous. Neither of these issues was part of the agreement. Limiting state speech as part of a treaty ?  Someone better tell Donald Trump?????????????????????????????????

In the not too distant past, liberal democracies failed to stop a fascist, racist, anti-Semitic regime. We cannot afford to repeat that mistake. We will do all we can to alert the public and encourage Congress to hold fast to the terms the United States and the world needs to prevent a nuclear-armed regime in Iran.

“In the not too distant past, liberal democracies failed to stop a fascist, racist, anti-Semitic regime. We cannot afford to repeat that mistake.”  These are big words and largely irrelevant to Iran today. Iran is at least as close to being democratic as China, Cuba, or Singapore.  Iran is far more democratic and far less bigoted in how it deals with Jews than the Gulf states, Kuwait, or Saudi Arabia. Iran, if it succeeds in the global economy, needs to compete commercially with us, with India, Europe, and China.  I also do not see any value other than poorly used romantics of concatenating the term anti Semitic and racist.
