In the video below, GOP Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) explains why he opposes DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion). He says, “Most Americans think about merit and character,” just weeks after a majority of voters elected a president with no character at all.
A day later, Kennedy voted in favor of advancing Trump’s nomination for Secretary of Defense of Pete Hegseth, a Fox News host with skimpy qualifications for the job, and about whom “numerous reports surfaced about alleged sexual misconduct, financial mismanagement, and public drunkenness” (details here).
We all know how this works: Partisanship is the whole ballgame. If his party doesn’t like DEI, he’ll make up an excuse to oppose it. If the president of his party wants an alcoholic woman-abuser to run the Pentagon, he’ll vote to confirm the appointment.
Merit and character have nothing to do with it.
