Nobody cared about Greenland’s riches when they were buried under ice.
But the ice is melting (see story here), and now a colonial power is eager to exploit the arctic island’s oil, copper, and rare earth deposits. It even has diamonds (see article here).
The colonial power is Donald Trump, and he wants to take over Greenland. Of course, Greenland is already taken, but that’s unlikely to stop him. It never stopped countries with powerful militaries from subjecting indigenous peoples and seizing their natural resources in the past.
Trump, of course, doesn’t care about Greenlanders. He wants the land and its resources. The people, if they matter at all, are just in the way.
Americans don’t all think alike. If you’re liberal, you believe Greenland belongs to Greenlanders or Denmark, and any money from exploiting the island’s resources should go to them.
People with colonial mindsets believe resources are for the taking by whoever gets there first, and they intend to be first. Trump the colonizer just wants to know who he has to step on, and walk over, to get at them.
