At her confirmation hearing, Pam Bondi “refused to confirm that Donald Trump lost the 2020 election, declined to oppose pardons for violent January 6 attackers, would not say if she would carry out an illegal order from Trump, and professed ignorance of a wide array of controversial statements by the incoming president.” (Read story here.)
Obviously she shouldn’t be confirmed or hold that job, but she will be. Loyalty to Trump and party, not upholding the rule of law, is what guides Republican senators’ votes.
However, it’s not entirely correct to say Republicans have no standards anymore. They lust for political power, and this job would have gone to Matt Gaetz if a few — and I emphasize a few, like a handful — GOP senators hadn’t balked a confirming a drug abuser who paid an underage girl for sex.
But if that’s what it takes to keep Republicans from confirming someone for a sensitive cabinet position, their standards are very low. How hard is it for Pam Bondi to say she won’t investigate Special Prosecutor Jack Smith? Too hard for her, apparently (watch video below).
Expect Trump’s second term to be an ugly circus. You get what you vote for, and this is what Trump voters chose. Is it fair to criticize our fellow citizens for voting malpractice?
I’ll let you know my thoughts on that after we see former Trump lawyer Pam Bondi in action as Attorney General of the United States.
