After Kari Lake lost another election, I suggested she retire from politics (see my posting here).
Apparently she’s taking my advice, because on December 21, 2024, she told a conservative crowd she doesn’t want to run for office again (see story here).
Her reason for bowing out of elective politics? Because she thinks losing was “torture.” As usual, she doesn’t know what she’s talking about, and John McCain isn’t around anymore (he died in 2018) to explain torture to her.
She also said, “We’re not where we need to be on elections. And that’s one of the reasons I don’t want to run again, to be honest.”
Let’s be clear here. First, the problem isn’t elections, it’s her. She lost for governor in 2022, and senator in 2024, because she’s a lousy candidate. So lousy even Republican voters voted against her. Second, the words “Kari Lake” and “honest” don’t belong together in any sentence.
Trump has picked her to run Voice of America, a job that pays a salary, doesn’t require her to win an election (it only required Trump to win his election), and isn’t subject to Senate confirmation. That works for a failure and suck-up who can’t land a job with her own steam.
In my previous posting linked above I said she’s stupid, incompetent, a weasel when she isn’t lying, and crazy by her own admission. That hasn’t changed. Even in today’s GOP, a party with no character or competence standards, she’s hopelessly unqualified for a political career.
Not that VOA is a good place for her; it’s not (see article here). Probably everybody working there will quit. But a bright spot is that Elon Musk’s cost-cutting committee may steamroller its budget. Or Trump may simply tire of her, and throw her under the bus.
I can think of worse things happening in the next two years.
