A month ago, I predicted (here) that Kari Lake would “undoubtedly grovel for a job in Trump Administration 2.0, but if she gets one it’ll be a very minor role.”
Then rumors swirled that Lake was being considered for ambassador to Mexico (see story here). That’s not a minor role; it’s a big, politically important role.
Was I wrong? Nope. Lake didn’t get the job. It went to Ronald Johnson (profiled here), a former Green Beret, CIA veteran, and ambassador to El Salvador with vast Central American experience.
Politico says (here) Johnson will “bring significant foreign policy expertise to one of the most important bilateral diplomatic portfolios in the U.S. government.”
It’s important because Mexico is America’s largest trading partner, and “thorny discussions around bilateral trade, drug trafficking, migration and border security are expected to dominate” U.S. – Mexico relations during Trump’s second presidency.
What about Lake? She still doesn’t have a paycheck. That’s gotta be disappointing for her; even Don Trump Jr.’s ex-fiancee got a job offer (see story here). (Actually, it appears to me the Trump family doesn’t want Junior’s ex around. What I mean is, Greece is far away … )
Maybe Lake needs to lower her sights a little, to something commensurate with her talents. Know any McDonalds or Starbucks who are hiring?
