I’ll go with stupidity. Duplicity requires more brains than America’s dumbest senator has. When you look him in the eye, they’re empty; nothing’s there (see photo at left).
Tuberville, who opposes military aid to Ukraine (and foreign aid in general), was called out in April 2024 for repeating Russian lies about Ukraine leaders (see story here). That by itself marks him as a gullible fool.
Part of his reasoning for opposing Ukraine aid is he doesn’t believe “Russia would use Ukraine as a steppingstone for more military conquests” (see story here). That’s what Neville Chamberlain said about Hitler. Putin’s own speeches and remarks clearly indicate he has ambitions of reconstituting the former Soviet empire which included eastern Europe.
Another of Tuberville’s objections to Ukraine aid is he thinks we’re sending billions to that country. This is a little more forgivable, because many people assume this. But they’re wrong. The money goes for American weapons and munitions, which are made in the USA by American workers, and is spent here (see story here).
Same with most foreign aid: “People don’t realize that most of American foreign aid, which is less than 1% of our budget, is spent in the United States on American workers for American products,” Tom Nichols, an Atlantic staff writer, says (same link as above).
Tuberville, a former football coach, brings a ton of ignorance to foreign policy matters. At the very least, he should be curious about the thinking behind America’s global strategy.
But he’s who Alabama voters sent to the Senate to represent their state, and that’s how democracy works, so we depend on other senators outvoting him.
