Do unicorns vote?

“Suppose you are chatting with your neighbor when, out of the blue, they mention their deep and abiding concern that unicorns are being killed by unscrupulous hunters. You can argue with them that unicorns aren’t real, or you could switch to talking about the weather.”

Well, yes, unicorns are real. You find them in toy stores, on the My Little Pony shelf. Some are fancy enough to delight any little girl (photo, left).

Noncitizen voters are real, too, even though no state allows them to vote. The rightwing Heritage Foundation compiled 85 alleged cases from 2002 to 2023 (read story here). That’s an average of about 4 per year. (Note, “alleged” isn’t the same as “verified”.)

A Brennan Center survey of election officials in 42 jurisdictions found 30 ballots cast by noncitizens in 2016. Georgia’s secretary of state recently checked that state’s 8.2 million voter registrations and found 20 noncitizens, but only 9 of them have ever voted.

Ballots cast by noncitizens are almost as rare as live unicorns. So where did Lara Trump come up with “as many as 2.7 million illegals could vote in November”? Find out here. Meanwhile, should the Constitution be amended to let My Little Ponies vote? You gotta admit they’re cute.
