House speaker deflects on Trump’s genitalia remarks

Trump is losing it, big time. At a rally Saturday, October 19, 2024, he riffed about golfer Arnold Palmer’s junk (see story here).

When House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) went on a Sunday talk show the next day, he was inevitably asked about it by CNN‘s Jake Tapper (see story here).

“MAGA Mike” (photo, left) dodged and weaved, but Tapper pushed. “I know you want to talk about policy, and I respect that,” Tapper said, but what about Trump’s “fitness, his acuity and his stability,” which seems like a fair question.

Johnson finally said, “I’ll address it. Let me answer it. OK. Don’t say it again.” Here’s what he said about his party’s nominee for president talking about a famous pro golfer’s private parts in front of a crowd.

“You can cherry pick a few words or lines out of a two-hour event,” he replied. Well yeah, but that kind of campaign rally remark begs to be cherry-picked.

Johnson continued, “We all know that the facts, the American people see it and, you know, the media can pick it apart, but people are going to vote,” the Trump defender went on. “They’re going to vote what’s best for their family. And they see that in Trump.” If that’s what’s best for their family, well, not in front of their children. The speaker then criticized Kamala Harris for speaking in “word salads.”

The first rule of politics is, Never say anything bad about your candidate, and never say anything good about your opponent. Sounds simple enough, but easier said than done. Sometimes it requires incredible mental and verbal gymnastics, suspension of belief, world-class hypocrisy, and a complete surrender of dignity.
