Sen. J. D. Vance (R-OH), depicted at left, is a Yale-educated lawyer and published writer who’s very good at manipulating the English language to make it look like he’s not lying when he is.
Campaigning for Trump in Pennsylvania on Saturday, October 12, 2024, Vance called Biden’s inauguration on January 20, 2021 a “peaceful transfer of power,” as if history began on that date and nothing preceded it (see story here).
Appearing on a Sunday TV talk show the next day, he got around a question about Trump lying by claiming FEMA disaster relief was withheld from Republican areas and diverted to migrants by prefacing with “Trump said” before repeating those lies (watch video here). It’s true Trump said those things, but those things aren’t true.
And a few weeks ago, when confronted about lying that legal Haitian migrant workers in Springfield, Ohio, were stealing and eating pets, he justified his racist lies by arguing, in effect, it’s okay to “tell stories” to get his points across.
Vance is slick, and he’s a liar. Watch out for slick liars.
