Forest critters like free handouts as much as any street pandhandler does.
A woman living in woods near Poulsbo, Washington, had to call the cops because masked intruders blocked her from getting into her home.
“Kevin McCarty, a spokesperson for the Kitsap County Sheriff, said the woman called deputies Thursday because about 100 raccoons outside her home were demanding food,” a Seattle TV station reported on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 (read story here).
She began feeding raccoons about 35 years ago “without any problems,” but 6 weeks ago the raccoon population “exploded” and now surrounds her home “day and night” looking for food, KING 5 TV says.
“Somehow the word got out in raccoon land and they all showed up to her house expecting a meal,” McCarty said. (Hey everybody, FREE FOOD!!! Come and get it!)
This sounds like a job for state wildlife agents, not the police.
