Trump’s attempts “to unravel American democracy” might not prevent his return to power.
That’s because “while he horrifies many Americans, his conduct after the last election is not seen as disqualifying by millions of others,” CNN says (read article here).
The article continues, “This is a reality that reflects both the divided state of the nation and the GOP’s willingness to prioritize power. But most of all, it’s a testimony to the often-malevolent magnetism that has made Trump a historic and enduring political figure.” (Who else does that make you think of?)
You have to ask yourself, what kind of people are attracted to such a person? Not those who believe in America’s core principles, the rule of law, or respect their fellow citizens. Which shows that being Americans, alone, does not make people good citizens. Some of us are better citizens than others.
The article concludes, “if Trump wins, future historians may wonder why a former president who tried to burn down democracy to stay in power was able to use the same system to regain the White House.” They should examine the character, thoughts, and motivations of Republican voters for answers. Also, maybe it means that collectively we’re not as good a country as we like to think we are.
