Let cops beat up suspects (read story here).
“Donald Trump on Sunday used a speech in key swing state Pennsylvania to urge a ‘violent’ police crackdown on crime …. Recounting isolated — but widely publicized — incidents of thieves staging brazen daylight robberies of shops in major cities, Trump … said police should become ‘extraordinarily rough.’ Criminals, he said, ‘have to be taught’ [a lesson]. ‘One rough hour — and I mean real rough — the word would get out and it would end immediately,’ Trump said.”
In the bad old days, cops administered “street justice” (see, e.g., the Rodney King case). Trump wants to turn the clock back to those halcyon times. He’s saying police should take the law into their own hands. He’s not only endorsing, but advocating, police misconduct.
This isn’t surprising from someone who despises the law as much as he does. He doesn’t care that this is unconstitutional, deprives citizens of due process, and would subject police to liability lawsuits; or what would happen to innocent citizens when a cop mistakes a victim or witness for the perp (see, e.g., this case).
Trump respects no one’s rights other than his own (which he asserts to the utmost). Seriously, should someone like that be president?
