Republicans grow more extreme on abortion

Despite signs their extreme stances on abortion spell election disaster for them, many Republicans are doubling down.

In Texas, a GOP state legislator in a tight re-election race says if his daughter was raped, and wanted an abortion, “I would say no, we’re going to have the baby.” Read story here. That’s easy for him to say, because he doesn’t have any daughters.

Meanwhile, an influential Trump adviser declared “it’s up to the states” whether they monitor pregnancies, a practice dubbed by opponents as “menstrual surveillance departments.” Read story here.

Such pronouncements won’t help Trump or GOP down-ballot candidates with women voters, who are deserting the GOP in large numbers according to pollsters.
