How food makers deceive health conscious shoppers

What they want you to see when you’re shopping: 90 calories and 650 mg of sodium per serving.

What they don’t want you to notice: “About 2.5 servings per container”.

Who carefully measures 40% of the contents of a soup can into a saucepan or microwave dish? Nobody.

If you eat the whole can, you’re getting 225 calories and a whopping 1625 mg of sodium.

This is how food processors sell products to health-conscious consumers they might avoid if the labeling was more straightforward. Companies rely on rushed shoppers not picking up on the sneaky math.
