Republicans aimed to “showcase that President Biden abused his power and was at the center of a corrupt plot to enrich his family,” The Hill reported on August 19, 2024 (read story here).
But their case relied on “largely debunked threads, disputed testimony, and circumstantial evidence that failed to directly tie any official action from President Biden to his family’s business dealings.”
If a prosecutor took a case like that to court, and the judge didn’t throw it out, no reasonable jury would buy it. But this isn’t a courtroom, it’s politics, where anything goes if someone thinks it can be sold to gullible voters — or used for fundraising, which likely is the real purpose of this.
Yes, Biden’s adult son profited from his father’s position selling influence he didn’t have. The victims of this fraud were the corrupt influence buyers. Should we feel sorry for them? And Biden’s brother may have trafficked the family name, too. That makes them, not him, guilty.
