J. D. Vance’s lying campaign video

In the video below, J. D. Vance says, “I nearly lost my mother to the poison coming across the border,” referring to drugs.

That’s a lie; his mother, a nurse, fed her addiction by stealing drugs from her patients. He would’ve had little reason to lament “losing” her; she beat him, threatened to kill him, and he was raised by grandparents. (See story here.)

That’s not the end of this video’s lies. Drugs aren’t brought across the border by migrants, but through border crossings in trucks, and most of the smugglers are U.S. citizens (see story here). Vance calls migrants “Democrat voters” in this video, but GOP claims that illegals vote in U.S. elections do not survive fact-checks (see, e.g., article here).

J. D. Vance is someone who takes extreme liberties with truth; even his best-selling “Hillbilly Elegy” has been called “not a memoir but a treatise that traffics in ugly stereotypes and tropes” (see story here). He is not to be trusted.
