A swing and a miss

“Hamas said Sunday [its] military commander was in good health, a day after the Israeli military targeted Mohammed Deif with a massive airstrike that local health officials said killed at least 90 people, including children,” Huffington Post reported on Monday, July 15, 2024 (photo below; read story here).

This isn’t just Hamas propaganda. “Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Saturday night ‘there still isn’t absolute certainty’ he was killed,” and “Army chief Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi told journalists … ‘It’s still too early to summarize the results of the attack’ ….”

The story continues, “On Sunday, some survivors were angry that the attack targeting Deif occurred without warning in an area they were told was safe.” In other words, dozens of innocent civilians may have died for nothing.

BBC earlier reported, “In a news conference on Saturday, Mr Netanyahu said he gave the order for the al-Mawasi operation to go ahead after being briefed by his general security forces. He said he wanted to know there were no hostages nearby, the extent of the collateral damage and what kinds of weapons would be used.” (Read that story here.)

Women and children, apparently, are “collateral damage” to him. Human life is very cheap in Gaza these days.
