Thank you for your service, Mr. President

You beat Trump in 2020, and you’ve been a good president, enacting impactful legislation and threading excruciatingly difficult foreign policy needles. Mission accomplished.

It’s time to pass the baton; you’re slowing down, you walk stiffly and get confused, even tongue-tied at times, and don’t have enough in your tank for four more years.

The problem isn’t the debate performance, but what it uncovered. Concern had built for months among White House staffers, Democratic insiders, and journalists close to the situation; after the debate it burst into the open.

At a press conference today, you called Ukraine leader Zelenskyy “President Putin” and Kamala Harris “Vice President Trump” (see story here).

This. Is. The. End. Biden has stuttered and made verbal gaffes all his life, and maybe this was that again, but the timing is awful. Yesterday CNN reported (here) the “ground is shifting” as fear grips Democrats. Even campaign insiders believe Biden’s chances of winning are “zero,” read that story here.

It feels like the media are hectoring Biden to quit, while strangely quiet about Trump. But Democrats are genuinely worried. According to The Hill, Obama and Pelosi are working behind the scenes to get Biden to withdraw (see stories here and here). That’s serious, but carries less persuasive weight than his family, who are still backing his candidacy.

It’s important to stay focused on the mission: Keeping Trump away from power, and not allowing Project 2025 to become public policy. If Biden can’t do that, and some other Democrat can, he must put country first.

People who love, respect, and admire him will think more of him, not less, and won’t consider him a quitter. He has the thanks of a grateful nation.
