Vermont legislator should be expelled for harassing colleague

Morrissey, a Republican, is pro-life; Carroll, a Democrat, is pro-choice. For five months, Morrissey harassed Carroll because of his position on abortion.

Most of the harassment was verbal, but Morrissey also poured water in Carroll’s tote bag hanging in the cloakroom. She was caught with a hidden camera (story here, more details here, video below).

Morrissey apologized, but only after being caught, and didn’t stop this behavior until she was caught.

Given those circumstances, her apology means little. Nor is it redress. She’s guilty of hate conduct, and should be expelled from the legislature.
