Even if Trump is convicted in the hush money case, and ex-FBI director James Comey thinks it’s a strong case (see story here), he’s unlikely to get prison time.
Ex-Baltimore D.A. Marilyn Mosby, convicted of stealing her own money and lying about it, got a year of home detention (read story here).
Trump did the same thing when he secretly paid off porn actress Stormy Daniels, then falsified business records to cover his tracks.
They had different motives. Mosby did it to buy a Florida condo; Trump to influence an election. But their reasons shouldn’t make a difference if the crimes are the same, should they?
Let’s assume Trump is convicted and gets the same sentence. If he wins the 2024 election, he’ll be confined to the White House for a year. This means no campaign trips or rallies until 2026. But he’ll be released from house arrest in plenty of time to run for a third term in 2028.
