If you live in Wisconsin, GOPer Eric Hovde wants to be your U.S. senator.
A banking and real estate magnate, Hovde (photo, left) is continuing the mostly (not exclusively) Republican tradition of wealthy people buying their way into politics.
A very rich guy who pulled himself up by his bootlaces by inheriting the family business empire, Hovde hopes to unseat incumbent Democrat Tammy Baldwin, who knows how to work for a living.
Recently he “questioned whether most nursing home residents should be able to vote because they only have ‘five, six months life expectancy'” (read story here). In case you missed it, Republicans don’t like nursing home voters.
And in case you’ve forgotten, during the pandemic, a prominent GOP elected official argued senior citizens should volunteer to die to save the economy (i.e., preserve business profits).
In other words, if you got a good education, worked all your life, maybe served in the military, have been a good citizen, keep up with current affairs, and are a well-informed and responsible voter, your role in life is to drop dead and your voting rights expired because you won’t vote for the “best” candidates and policies (e.g., cutting Social Security and Medicare).
Also, if you do, you wouldn’t vote for him.
