Ron DeSantis called Thomas and Alito “the gold standard” on a talk show this week, and promised to appoint more justices like them if he’s elected president.
Thomas, a highly controversial appointee, is embroiled in the Supreme Court’s biggest scandal in decades for taking — and failing to report — expensive gifts from a billionaire real estate developer.
Alito wrote the decision overturning Roe v. Wade, citing a medieval text in his reasoning.
Thomas and Alito were the only justices to vote for striking down the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA), which Congress enacted to keep Native American children with their families and tribes, following decades of Indian board school abuses (see history here).
The last thing the Supreme Court, already on the precipice of being discredited, is another Thomas or Alito. And that means the last thing the U.S. needs, next to another Trump presidential term, is a President DeSantis.
