A cop responding to a domestic call shot an 11-year-old boy at the home, a local news source reported (read story here).
The boy was the family member who called police. His mother slipped him the phone and told him to call 911 after the father of her other child showed up and became “irate.” The boy was unarmed.
Aderrien Murry (photo, left), 11, suffered a collapsed lung, fractured ribs, lacerated liver, and other injuries. He’s on a ventilator in intensive care. The police haven’t commented on why he was shot.
The cop who shot Aderrien wasn’t disciplined for tasering a handcuffed suspect in December 2022, and was put on administrative leave for this incident only after the family attended a town board meeting and demanded action. They want more. They want the police chief fired, and the police department cleaned up “from top to bottom.”
The incident occurred at around 6 a.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2023, in Indianola, Mississippi, a town of about 9,600 residents, of whom 80% are black.
