And right now, they can’t.
In Buckingham County, a sparsely populated rural area in central Virginia, there isn’t a functioning election system. Residents can’t register to vote, candidate paperwork isn’t processed, and there’s no one to conduct elections.
Why? Because on January 4, 2023, Republican election deniers took over the county election board, the harassment of the county election staff began the same day, and within three weeks they all quit. Read the sordid details here.
It’s fine with me if the deniers and harassers who drove away this county’s election workers don’t get to vote in future elections. They don’t deserve to live in a democracy.
