“I bet you didn’t think M&M’s were pushing intolerance, but they were!” Tucker Carlson ranted when Mars Inc. changed Green M&M’s boots. He also called Purple M&M “obese.”
“M&M’s will not be satisfied until every last cartoon character is deeply unappealing and totally androgynous!” he continued. This is the most highly-paid and widely-watched talk-show host in America (if not the whole world) expounding on the latest world crisis.
I had to look up “androgynous.” I means “having both female and male characteristics, hermaphroditic; being neither distinguishably masculine nor feminine, as in dress, appearance, or behavior; uniting both sexes in one, or having the characteristics of both.”
I didn’t know M&Ms have sex; I guess I learned something today.
In any case, Mars Inc. has fired the whole lot (for sexual harassment??), and replaced them with an identifiably female human spokesperson.
Raw Story got it right when they said “the supposed ousting of M&M’s mascots is the latest example of how stupid our society has become.” Read story here. It also reminds us that Tucker Carlson is in the business of manufacturing controversy.
There are real and serious issues embroiling chocolate candies of all types: Most people are unaware that many cocoa plantations employ unpaid child slaves. (That explains the “ethically produced” labels you see on some chocolate products.)
According to Raw Story, big chocolate companies have repeatedly “missed deadlines to uproot child labor from their cocoa supply chains.” Mars Inc. is among the companies that “can’t guarantee” their chocolates are produced “without child labor.”
But you’ll never hear about that from Tucker Carlson.
