The Capitol rioters are a mixed bag, but none are patriots, and at least a few may be sociopaths.
Edward Kelley, 33, of Maryville, Tennessee, was already awaiting trial on charges he assaulted a police officer during the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection.
A Knoxville TV station says (here) that, according to court records, Kelley and two other men grabbed the officer and threw him to the ground. Kelley then was seen breaking a window, entering the Capitol, and once inside he allegedly kicked a door open to let other rioters in.
Now, CNN reports (here), he’s facing a new set of charges for plotting to attack the FBI’s Knoxville office and trying to recruit people to carry out assassinations of law enforcement personnel. According to news reports, an informant gave police a list of 37 FBI agents and other police that Kelley and an accomplice planned to target.
It’s not like he wasn’t in enough trouble already; so he got himself in even deeper.
Like all criminal defendants, Kelley is presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law, but meantime he’ll stay locked up because judges consider him too dangerous to be on the streets.
