John Bolton, a former Trump foreign policy adviser, thinks conservative support for Trump is ebbing away.
He’s been calling around, he says, and that’s what he’s hearing from other prominent conservatives.
Bolton himself is a piece of work. A Vietnam draft dodger, he’s long had a reputation as a warmonger in foreign policy circles. He’s what critics disdainfully call a “chickenhawk” — a cowardly shirker who sends other people’s children to die in wars.
So what’s Bolton hearing from his acquaintances? They’re switching off Trump in their brains, he says (see story here).
He explained, “Even if they loved his style, loved his approach, loved his policies, loved everything about him, they don’t want to lose and the fear is, given the results on 8 November, that if he got the nomination, not only would he lose the general election, but he would take an awful lot of Republican candidates down with him.”
In other words, these people still have no moral compass, no sense of right and wrong, they only care about winning or losing. They don’t care if Trump is a racist and bigot, a prolific liar, or tries to overthrow elections and tear our country apart — if he wins.
What this tells you is that even if conservatives walk away from Trump, they’re still awful people.
