Boebert leads by 554 votes, and the close margin triggers an automatic recount, but Frisch said he “does not expect the results to change” and discouraged fundraising efforts for “a fruitless cause.” Recounts typically change results by only a few votes, and Boebert’s lead is too large to overcome.
Democrats mounted a campaign to cure ballots needing a valid signature, but that effort fell short of producing the needed votes.
Boebert is an incendiary attention-seeker known for her childish antics, and her re-election embarrasses the voters of her western Colorado district, which is mostly rural farming and ranching territory, with scattered small towns. Slightly more than 327,000 voters cast votes in this race.
Some Republican voters, conscious of Boebert’s impact on their communities’ image, crossed over to Frisch, a feet-on-the-ground businessman, but not enough. Western Colorado’s voters were given an opportunity to choose between sober and pragmatic representation or a clown show, and narrowly failed that test.
