Roger Stone, the penultimate GOP dirty trickster, has been a toxic pollutant in American politics for over half a century.
He’s also a criminal. As Huffington Post says (here), he was “sentenced to 40 months in prison for multiple felonies, including witness tampering, lying to Congress, and obstructing the House investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia in 2016.”
Despite those convictions, he served no time, because Trump commuted his sentence.
But, like all the other January 6 plotters, he didn’t get a “Get Out of Jail Free” card for that.
Stone is angry about that, even though he hasn’t been charged (yet) in connection with the Capitol riot or attempts to overthrow the 2020 election.
The day of Biden’s inauguration, he ranted on the phone to an unknown listener that he’s “done” with Trump, and threatened to publicly support his second impeachment, after learning “he would not be receiving a second presidential pardon to protect him from legal fallout over the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection” (see story here).
Of course, if he didn’t commit any more crimes after his first pardon, he wouldn’t need a second pardon, would he?
So far, Stone has only been hit with a civil lawsuit for his role in the January 6 attacks, forced to pay $2 million of back taxes to the IRS, and received a subpoena for his phone. But he seems scared of what may lie around the next bend in the road. I hope it’s an orange jumpsuit. And this time there’s no Trump pardon to bail him out.
